My music video so far

With having difficulties to get much filming done since January, I haven't been able to progress much when it comes to the editing of my work. On the other hand, now that me and Jodee have got our university interviews out of the way we have time to work on my music video. The editing is the hardest part I did over 3 minutes worth of filming in the space of an hour and when it came to edit it, it was a minute long which is not including my first shootings. I will be able to break some shots down, so it is not the same location all the way through - I am talking about the last section of my video I have edited so far which was taking in the studio, once I have filmed in the pool, I will be able to make it much more interesting as the scene will be broken up by different locations (studio and underwater scenes of jodee sinking to the bottom to represent her decline in life due to drink and drugs).

I had trouble uploading my file to youtube from final cut pro as it would not work when I typed in my youtube username and password when I knew they were correct as its the same password and user name for my blogger account to get on to this. I was able to upload the video with no sound however it wouldn't allow me to with the sound, I filmed the second video on my mobile so there is background noise from other students but you can here the music and rhythmic transitions I have made. As I plan to resolve this problem next week, I should have to raw copy online as soon as possible with my music on it aswell.

As you can see when watching the second video, it finishes just as my third scene (studio) is about to begin. I don;'t understand why this happened but I think as I uploaded it from my phone the APP limited the amount of the video I could upload. From looking at the top video you can see that I have continued from the bathroom scene in development of the abstract video and music as the beat gets heavier and rockier after the point it stops.

Likes and dislikes to my video and what I can do to adapt my work to look more professional/interesting

From what I have created so far, my favourite aspects are the scenes in the bath room because the rhythmic edits create realism to my product and makes the video interesting as the edits are quick and sharp which work much better then the bedroom scene. To adapt my bedroom scene to make it much more interesting, I will include quick little shots of Jodee sinking to the bottom of the pool to show her decline into the drug scene. By doing this, I will create a meta narrative for a stereotypical drug user to get deeper into the use of drugs. Another aspect I like of my video is the quick abstract scenes I did in the studio which appear in the video when the song gets to the chorus.

I still need to film and do a photoshoot at Beverley swimming baths and pre drinks at Jodee's house to complete my filming for my music video. After that I will be staying late on nights at college to make sure I get my work completed for April. Hopefully by getting the rest of my filming done in the next week or two I will meet my end of March/start of April deadline.

Ancillary Text - Posters

The top image is my my advert for television, magazines and the bottom image is what I would like my audience to recognize for the single. On the BBC 1 top 40 chart, there are images of the single cover, there number in the charts and details of the artist(s) and the song title. Each image is different to an album cover as this image is representing the single and this is what the bottom image is for.

The text in these two images look to be placed behind my model however, I simply used the eraser tool on Photoshop over the parts which over lapped with my models body. By doing this I am creating realism as Lana Del Ray, and other real media texts do this. In the top image I have the date of when the new single is released, facebook and twitter information along with the Atlantic records logo and an amazon.com logo. To help me make this product I looked at the prezi file (above) which I have shown real examples. I took the line across the bottom of the page from Lana Del Ray's Poster along with the amazon logo and the simple text font from Lorde's poster - The font is not the same however the simple font context is.

Below this text you can see how I have placed my bottom image into the charts.

Like Lana Del Rey, she used different images to advertise her album over a period of time. I though about having the same cover just edited slightly.

I created this vibrant abstract piece by simply changing the curve settings. By making it stand out more then the original could be a good way to intrigue a new audience to my product if it were real.

I have also produced footage of my main talent throwing talcum powder in the woods to represent chaos within her mind from the drugs and drink abuse.

I decided to produce these images as looking into my research, artists don't always have images for advertisement which are the same as the music video itself, however for continuity to be apparent throughout my work, I have included short scenes of my main talent throwing talcum powder to the floor in anger. The poses I have my model in are to represent her drowning in the sense that she is getting hooked deeper into drugs. This narrative is then turned around in the end of my video as my model will Open her eyes on an empty beach sat on an american flag which is the representation of freedom which is the connotes I wish to put across to my audience... By this I mean that my model was either dreaming or now decided to move on from the drugs and drink. I have created this narrative as I would like my audience to be subjective and decided for themselves what my music video ending represents.

I created these images in the same way I did which my others. Use the stop healing tool and clone stamp tool to remove the stool from my images to create this effect of levitation. These photographs below are how they looked like with the chair still in the image.

Even though I like these images, I am unhappy for them to be used as an advert. I like the look of the poster I have chosen from Lorde in my research. This is of the artists face. Jodee is not the artist however, I feel to promote the single itself, this is what a picture would be of rather than the band as I have called the band "About Jodee" which then allows me to use Jodee as the face for the single.

However, as I have filmed my main talent throwing talcum powder to the floor to the drum beat from the seconds verse to the chorus, I believe that it would be good to use these images in the cd digipack.

I looked at existing posters on google to give myself some new inspiration which lead me to create this as my poster....

This was my first attempt to creating s poster for my main product (above).

I was Inspired by this existing product below

I felt that this poster from Arctic Monkeys would be the best to work from as it is the same genre of music and form so the conventions I would use in comparison are very similar however, This is for a concert rather then the album promotion.

I like this poster I have created as I am following the expected conventions of a poster by including logos from social networkinf sites, record labels,  logos for a review and how to download the album (iTunes). By doing this, I am making my work more realistic and to attract my target audience as Arctic Monkeys appeal to the same age range. By relating my product to an existing product I can compare and contrast the elements which make the product successful or not.
There is something about my poster I don't like, I'm not sure what it is, but there is am element of it which I find appealing... I think I will improve this poster when I film at Beverley swimming baths. I will be able to take photographs whilst I'm there so I could change my product if I have time to as I am coming closer to the deadline for my work. This is a bad part to my project; having to wait and organize when Jodee and the baths allow me to film as this holds me back with editing both my video and ancillary texts if I wish to use the underwater images.

This was my second poster I created as an improvement to my first. This would relate more to my digipack as this poster is in white mostly and has the same layout on the image and the text "about Jodee" and "Underdog". By doing this I am allowing continuity through my work from the digipack to the poster. This will make my product look more realistic in relation to my main product and digipack.

Adaptations to Ancillary Texts - Second Photoshoot and 3rd Draft

I didn't think some of my photographs in my first few shoots were very successful or eye catching. I decided to take an approach which are quite popular in the photography scene at the moment. I looked into an artist called Brooke Brooke Shaden who looks into the genre of fantasy of photography. Here are some examples of what inspired me.

As I don't have the correct facilities to produces such good photographs, I will attempt to produce work with the same levitation concept.
To suit the genre, I will add a dark texture to the image to create depth and atmosphere.

Photographs

This photograph is how I would begin to make my model to look as if she was levitating by composing her in graceful poses.
I thought that using this as a album cover and poster, it would help promote my final product - that being a music video. By this I am talking about linking a scene in the way my model is composed to the album cover. When I film underwater I plan to film my main talent sinking to the bottom in a similar pose and this is how they link together.

By having my model dressed in plain clothes, the aspect of the photograph drawing attention is the abnormal levitation effect and the pose of my model.

This is how the studio was set up. I would conduct my model/main talent to perform movements and poses which I would then attempt to capture. By using a single box light I have created shadows which will then show/give the impression of realism to my target audience.

To produce the final outcomes below, I cropped the image down so no studio surroundings were present. Following that, I corrected the levels in the image and used the quick selection too on the chair and then once selected, erase the chair from the image leaving plain white where it was. Finally, I used the clone stamp tool to clone the white black drop over the white sections which are then filled in with this tool and looks as if my model is floating. (This was a very long process - the final step taking up to an hour)

I also added a texted image and used different blending tools to create different effects. I found this textured image on google images.

This was another way of presenting my edited images.

I created these iamges above using some of the following tools I've hightlighted on this print screen below.

The tool I used the most throughout this would be the clone stamp tool and the spot healing tool to remove the chair along with the blending tools located on the right to blend in the texture to the image.

Draft 3

This is my favourite one of my drafts so far as I think these images compliment each other and work better then draft 1 and 2 do. I could place text on the CD sticker itself to possible improve this draft. From here I think I will draft different layouts of text of the CD from looking back to my ancillary text research.

I have included Atlantic records logo, a bar code, Facebook and Twitter links/names so that fans will follow the band on these social networking websites. By doing this, I am creating verisimilitude and realism to my product as existing media texts have these conventions.

I decided to call the band "About Jodee" as the original name is "the black rebel motorcycle club" which is a long enough name in itself. I was struggling to think of names or phrases and I just thought to call them "About Jodee". The song was originally called the devils tattoo and I included Jodee's tattoo in my video to allow more aspects of the song to relate to her as a character. However, as I couldn't keep the song name the same, I used a different lyric "needle through". which is used at the end of the song just before the lyrics "the devils tattoo" are said.
