Ancillary Text Drafting

These images below are the layout designs to help me create my CD and CD cover/Digipack. As I have created posters in a summer task for my AS Media Studies, I feel that I should concentrate most of my efforts in the creation of producing this digipack.

The picture below is a screen shot of a prezi file which I wasn't able to create on a computer as it said my profile was too full to use images. I thought I would give the app a try, however it wouldn't allow me to upload it so I therefore had to take a screen shot.

First Ancillary Text Photoshoot

Shoot Plan Below

- one box light for shadowing
- two so there are no shadows
- material covering herself to represent her vulnerability
- hand in hands - pose like the one I've used in my video - similar technique to what Lana del Rey did with some of her albums
- long exposure - arms everywhere to represent scene when Jodee has been sped up and her movement looks abnormal

This image above is a long exposure. This is when a lens is open for a number of seconds and the lighting flashes when my model moves so the camera captures it. I have done this to reflect the music video when my model is sped up and her arms look like they do in this iamge - blurred and moving fast. By changing the exposure, levels and brightness I was able to create a dark atmosphere to my image. This reinforces the atmosphere I wanted to create for my music video and allow continuity to be shown.

By Taking still images of my model in different poses (as seen above), changing them into black and white, and layering them on top of each other, I can create a similar affect like the long exposure image I took. This allows the distress and emotion of my model to be captured in a image (seen below).

January 31st shoot with unedited shoots

The image above is a print screen of a criteria I have prepared to print out for me and Jodee to refer to when filming and to make sure I have all my equipment before going to Jodee's house to film.

Existing Digipacks and Posters in my chosen Genre

Choosing these two artist digipacks to look at, I will be able to look at the conventions they both have and compare the layouts. The First digipack I'll look at is from...

Lana Del Rey

This is her "Born to Die" Album cover. The images on the right are ones from the music video which promotes more views on youtube and sales. By having different covers, this allows fans to buy more, like a collector would.

This is the poster to promote her album for appearances in magazines, television and on boards for on the streets. The images is once again different to the original CD. By doing this, it will attract more of an audience by re-promoting her product.

This is the Digipack which is different to the one seen above for the same album "Born to Die". This once again is a good way to promote more sales as it will be recognisable to the advertisement so original fans and new fans will recognise the album.

The XX

This is their album above. The XX are recognised by their logo of an X. With every album, the X is filled with either a picture or colour. This makes it simple when designing a new album. This isn't what I plan to do, however, if I were to do this project again, a logo would be a lot easier. As there isn't a lot to the digipack and it is simple, it makes a bold imprint which people will remember. This is why when advertising with a poster, litter effort is carried out, however once again, the bold X logo and the fact the band are in the X create a impressive poster and having the album name beneath the X draws interest into what Coexist is.

You Me At Six

You Me At Six have taken a different approach to promotion of a CD as they have packaged it in a book as well (I was unable to find images of the inside. The CD is exactly the same) This makes fans want to buy it as a momentum to the band which could promote sales.

As you can see from the two images below, the same image has been used to promote the tour, CD digipack and Poster. This allows it to be recognisable to fans and other audiences when repeatedly being on adverts on the television, magazines and posters.

From this I think I will take an approach similar to Lana Del Rey's digipack and poster... I won't have all the picture in my CD the same as I would like to show a variation in my best skill which is photography and photoshop, however, I will be using one of those photographs for my poster to show continuity.
I also plan to make a t-shirt as part of my merchandise using one of my photographs on them.

Filming schedule

It is only logical to produce another filming schedule due to my change of ideas over the Christmas holiday period, which I thought long and hard about.

In the following lists of dates, I will be detailing locations, framing/shot plans and a short description of what and why in filming certain things.

31st January
Location: Jodee's house

Jodee's room
- shots of bottles around her room

Jodee waking up
- Pans of Jodees body (with her permission) - I can relate to Laura Mulveys male gaze theory and Angela McRobbie's theory
- Close up shots
- Medium shots
- Long shot of her sat up in bed holding her legs in the upright fetal position

Jodee walking around her room
disorientated/hungover
- Rhythmic editing
- Fast tracks/pans to reinforce disorientation to the audience to create an atmosphere

Jodee ripping photograph up
- shot reverse shot of Jodee ripping a photograph up (close up of jodees hands holding the photograph, then her face, then back to hands ripping the photograph up

Jodee in the bath
- slow camera movements to create a calm atmospher, also reflects water movements
- close up on face
- close up on hands
- close up on collar bones
- close up on 'pill' in hand
- close up on toungue with pill on it
- close up on eye pupil dilate

Then flash back to the night before (other scenes in night out shoot)

February 17th

Location: Beverley swimming baths

- Low angle shots
- high angle shots
- Long shots
- Tracks
- Pans

One night when I was watching a music video to the band Swim Deep 'she changes the weather' part of that music video is filmed in water of a girl swimming. I thought it would be a good idea to represent my main talents fall into drugs by filming her sink to the bottom of the pool in a weightlessness manor to look professional.

The red dotted line is the space I'll have to fil around Jodee sinking to the bottom.
I plan to do a number of shoots with her doing this where I have close ups on her hands, hair flowing/face and aspects I may find look interesting to my video on the day of shooting.

This will be filmed on my go pro camera as I have waterproof housing for me to be able to film underwater capable.

Adaptations to my filming and some scenes due to a new Camera.

For Christmas I was lucky enough to be given a go pro camera. This camera has a wide angle lens and is smallers then an iPhone. This is used for photographs and filming. My idea was for when I allow my main talent to "in take" a drug (which will be a mint not a medicine at all for safety) in a scene it will be a front track of the character shot facing her. If my main talent holds the camera and acts as if she is "high" stumbling and falling into walls in the house, this can be developed into her visiting a club which will improve my use of filming techniques as I will also use this camera as if the lense was actually her; by this I mean I would film as if it was her looking around the club.

My photograph using my go pro was taken in my house and I was holding it at eye level. This allows it to see what I see, creating a first person effect to the filming.

As the camera is small I can use it to film different aspects of a club such as entering it, buying drinks and etc.... By filming these and cutting to different shots it will show the development over time spent in the club. For example, handing the doormen my ID and then cut to walking in to the club, and then drinks... This will go on in the video.

This is the email I have sent to Jodee and Katie for the "night out" scene to take place.

Another idea which I thought of one day was a time laps of a car travelling around a town which would be sped up on final cut pro to create bright lights to create disorientation between scenes and to also create a sense of time changing throughout the video from day to night. The video below was shot on my go pro at 4.00pm on the 2th of January. I could this this with the sun rising ans setting which will be suit and fit my narrative much better, however know I know that it will look good with testing it out in my car.
